A policeman’s hanging body was recovered from a washroom of a police camp in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 47, son of Mannan Mallik of Matlab North upazila in Chandpur district. He was a police constable.

According to police source, Shafiqul was found hanging in a washroom of the camp.

Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy around 1:30 PM.

Jatrabari Police camp sub-inspector (SI) Md Rasel confirmed the incident and said that Shafiqul’s body was handed over to his family.

It is suspected that Shafiqul might have committed suicide due to depression. He joined the police service in 2003.
