Zia assassination: Tribunal orders to produce Mozzafar

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered authorities to produce Former army officer Mozzafar Hossain, one of the accused in the assassination case of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, before the tribunal on Thursday (July 23) in connection with allegations of crimes against humanity.

The order was issued on Tuesday (July 21) by a three-member panel of ICT-2, headed by Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury. 

The other members of the bench are Justice Md. Manjurul Bashid and Justice Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.

Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam represented the prosecution during the hearing. Prosecutors Gazi MH Tamim, Faruk Ahmad, Shahidul Islam Sardar, Shaikh Mahdi, and Moinul Karim, among others, were also present.

During the hearing, the Chief Prosecutor requested the tribunal to issue a warrant against Mozzafar Hossain so that he could be produced before the court. The tribunal granted the application.

Earlier, the Chief Prosecutor told the court that investigators had collected information indicating Mozaffar Hossain's alleged involvement in crimes against humanity in addition to his status as an accused in the assassination case of President Ziaur Rahman.

Mozzafar was arrested last Thursday (July 16) based on information from a conversation involving former military officer Masud Uddin Chowdhury.
