The capital Dhaka and port city of Chattogram were shaken by a significant earth tremor on Tuesday night, marking the second seismic event to hit the country in less than 24 hours.
The earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, struck at 9:34 PM, causing high-rise buildings to sway, though no immediate casualties or structural damage have been reported.
According to data from My Earthquake Alert, the epicenter of the quake was located in the Rakhine state of Myanmar, approximately 516 kilometers southeast of Dhaka.
The tremor originated at a depth of 62.7 kilometers beneath the surface. While the shock was felt distinctly across the two major metropolitan areas, authorities have not yet confirmed if other districts experienced the jolts.
This incident follows an earlier tremor that woke residents in the southwestern region of the country before dawn. At 4:36 AM on Tuesday, a mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale was recorded, with its epicenter located in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district.
Seismologists are monitoring the situation closely following the dual seismic activities within a single day.
