Bangladesh Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan on Sunday instructed all concerned authorities to remain on maximum alert to ensure law and order at polling centres and guarantee the safety of voters during the upcoming national election.

The directives were issued during an exchange of views following his visit to Bhola Sadar and Charfassion upazilas in Bhola district.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) media release, the Navy chief urged the Bangladesh Navy, other law enforcement agencies, local administration and all stakeholders to work in close coordination so that voters can cast their ballots in a festive environment free from fear or intimidation.

The ISPR said the Bangladesh Navy is currently deployed under “In Aid to Civil Power” in 17 parliamentary constituencies across 24 upazilas and two city corporations.

The Navy remains fully prepared to provide maximum support to the local administration and relevant authorities to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.

In addition to ensuring voter security in assigned areas, the Navy is committed to assisting in holding a peaceful, free, fair and credible election, the release added.

Bhola Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Civil Surgeon, District Election Officer, officials from law enforcement agencies, Fire Service and Civil Defence, BIWTA and senior officials from upazila and thana administrations were present at the meeting.

The discussion stressed the importance of inter-agency coordination and comprehensive security measures to ensure the national parliamentary election is conducted in a peaceful, neutral and orderly manner.
