BNP leader Dr Muhammad Osman Faruk is set to take oath as the oldest member of parliament (MP) among those elected in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
In Kishoreganj-3 (Karimganj–Tarail) constituency, Dr Osman Faruk won with the Dhanshish (paddy sheaf) symbol. He secured 112,466 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Jihad Khan of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who received 102,476 votes with the Daripalla (scale) symbol.
Election affidavits show that Dr Osman Faruk was born on July 18, 1940. He is currently 85 years and six months old, making him the most senior MP among those newly elected lawmakers.
Election officials said the final results will be confirmed following completion of all formalities.
