Govt will review ICT laws if misused: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamen-tary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman on Wednes-day said the government will review the ICT laws if any misuse is found, while affirming that in cases of crimes against humanity, the law will take its own course.

He made the remarks while exchanging greetings with journalists in front of the Law Ministry at the Secretariat on his first working day. Later, he addressed officials of the ministry's two divisions at an introductory meeting.

The minister said the government would uphold the spirit of those who sacrificed their lives over the past 16-17 years to defend democracy and justice - particularly the martyrs of the July uprising and the 1971 Liberation War.

"We face mountainous expectations from the people. We will work tirelessly to meet them," he said.

Implementing the election manifesto remains a key priority, he added, with the overarching goal of establishing democracy, rule of law and justice in Bangladesh.

Asked about not taking oath in the Constitutional Reform Council, Asaduzzaman said the party spokesperson had already clarified the matter and he had nothing further to add.

On judicial integrity, he said, "A judge, by definition, is honest. The very word carries integrity." He stressed that he does not want to see a divide between "honest" and "dishonest" judges. However, if anyone is found involved in corruption, action will go beyond administrative steps - criminal cases will be filed.

"No one will get away with corruption," he asserted.

In a pointed message, the minister added that those who feel their salary is insufficient to support their families need not assume such responsibility. Since legal practice remains open even after retirement, they may choose that path instead.
