Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that 10,000 new constables will soon be recruited to strengthen law enforcement capacity. The recruitment process will begin once approval is received from the Ministry of Finance.
While briefing journalists at the Secretariat, the minister made the remarks on Thursday.
He stated that the government is working to increase the strength of the police force. As part of this initiative, instructions have been issued to quickly fill 180 vacant posts of police sergeant. Recruitment to these positions will be completed soon through proper examinations and procedures.
In addition, recruitment will be conducted for Sub-Inspectors (SI) and Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP). The ASP recruitment will be carried out through the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, he added, noting that detailed information regarding the timeline will be announced in due course.
The Home Minister also said that law and order committees at district and upazila levels across the country have been reconstituted. An official order has already been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs in this regard. Authorities have been instructed to take necessary plans and implement them to maintain a normal law and order situation nationwide.
Sources at the ministry said increasing manpower is essential to make field-level operations more dynamic. The vacant posts are being filled as part of that effort. Newly recruited personnel will receive modern training to ensure they can effectively contribute to public safety.
The final schedule and recruitment notice will be published soon, according to the relevant authorities.
