Gold prices have risen once more within hours, as Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced a fresh hike late Saturday night, pushing the price of 22-carat gold beyond Tk 268,000 per bhori.
In a notification issued on Saturday, BAJUS said the new rates will come into effect from March 1. The association increased gold prices by up to Tk 3,266 per bhori, citing a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market.
Under the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 268,680 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold now stands at Tk 256,433 per bhori, while 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 219,808 per bhori. Gold produced under the traditional method will cost Tk 179,859 per bhori.
Silver prices have also been increased. The price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk 6,998 per bhori. Additionally, 21-carat silver will cost Tk 6,707 per bhori, 18-carat silver Tk 5,715 per bhori and silver made under the traditional method Tk 4,316 per bhori.
Gold prices in the international market have also been on the rise following reports of US-Israel strikes on Iran.
According to global precious metals price-tracking website GoldPrice.org, gold is currently trading at $5,278 per ounce in the international market.
Previously, gold was priced at $5,200 per ounce on January 30, while on January 29 it had climbed to $5,550 per ounce.
Earlier this year, sharp increases in global prices triggered record hikes in the domestic market.
On January 29, BAJUS raised the price by Tk 16,213 per bhori in a single adjustment, pushing the rate of 22-carat gold to a historic high of Tk 286,000 per bhori; the highest ever recorded in the country and the largest single-day increase in history.
