A Dhaka court has scheduled March 8 for the bail hearing of journalist Anis Alamgir in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over alleged illicit wealth and money laundering.

Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez fixed the date on Sunday following a prosecution request, defence lawyer Taslima Jahan Popy confirmed.

Alamgir was detained on December 14 by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police after leaving a gym in Dhanmondi and was later remanded in a separate case filed at Uttara West Police Station. He has been in jail since December 20.

Later on January 15, ACC filed the current case. On January 25, ACC’s assistant director Akhtaruzzaman sought court approval to show him arrested in the case, which was granted.

According to investigators, Alamgir possesses assets worth about Tk 4.97 crore, including Tk 3.26 crore deemed beyond known income sources, roughly 77% of his total wealth.
