SIRAJGANJ, Mar 6: Two people have been killed in a clash between two groups over the ownership and possession of a pond in Raiganj Upazila, Sirajganj. At least 10 others were injured in the incident.

The clash took place on Monday morning in the Jamoil (Goalpara) Village of Dhamainagar Union in Raiganj Upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Salam, 50, son of Moydan Ali, and Ismail Hossain, 45, son of the late Monsher Ali, both from Goalpara Village. A tense atmosphere prevails in the area following the incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raiganj Police Station Golam Kibria said, a government pond in Goalpara village was leased by a man named Asmot Ali. He later relinquished the pond for the development work of the village mosque. However, when another faction from the same village attempted to take control of the pond, a long-standing dispute arose between the two sides.

Following this dispute, a clash erupted on Monday morning after an argument over the possession of the pond. At least 10 people from both sides were injured in the clash. Ismail Hossain and Salam Hossain died after being taken to the hospital. The others are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Upon receiving the information, police went to the scene and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area and the situation is now normal, the OC added.
