Part 1
"In War, In Peace, We are everywhere for our nation". It is the Motto of Bangladesh Army. This signifies the commitment of Army for serving our beloved county in all circumstances. Bangladesh Army is one of the most disciplined and respected organization in the country. They are contributing significantly to the nation building activities beside their main role safeguarding the national sovereignty. Contribution to the education sector is particularly remarkable amongst its various nation building activities. As such, Bangladesh Army has established and managed quite good number of educational institutions across the country to promote quality education, discipline, leadership and patriotism. Presently, these educational institutions have become symbol of excellence, producing responsible, capable and patriotic citizens who contribute to the development of the country.
Since the independence of the country, Bangladesh Army is actively involved in the education sector. They are driven by the spirit of nationalism took active steps after the liberation war to assist in the nation rebuilding process including establishing schools and colleges in cantonment areas to provide quality education for the children of military personnel and civilians.
Over the period of time, these Army run educational institutions grew significantly. Reputation and educational service of these institutions have expanded beyond the cantonments. Army has invested heavily for modern educational facilities, qualified teachers and quality management systems. As such, Army's initiatives in education sector span from very primary level to postgraduate level encompassing both military and civilian education.
Establishment of Cantonment Public School and Colleges (CPSC) is one of the most notable contributions of Bangladesh Army to the education sector. These CPSCs are located in all major cantonments across the county, such as Dhaka, Chattogram, Cumilla, Bogura, Jessore, Savar, Rangpur, Barishal etc.
Initially founded to educate the children of Army personnel, these schools and colleges later opened their doors to civilian students, creating a unique environment where discipline, punctuality, and academic excellence coexist. The CPSCs follow the national curriculum and regularly achieve outstanding results in public examinations such as the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC). Now I shall highlight the result of SSC and HSC of Bangladesh Army-run cantonment schools and colleges versus the national level school and college. The result of SSC for the year 2024, the cantonment schools and colleges achieved 99.48 % pass rate, with 6,090 out of 8,603 examinees getting the highest grade (GPA-5). The overall national pass rate for SSC of the same year 2024 (across the general education boards) was around 83.04 %. For the year 2025, Army-run schools and colleges had a dramatically higher pass rate (98.85 %) compared to the national average (68.45 %).
Their GPA-5 achievement rate (~66.67 %) is significantly higher than what can be inferred from the national figures (139,032 GPA-5 out of ~1.9 million examinees = ~7.2%). The national results show a sharp drop compared to previous years, whereas the army-run institution results remain very high and stable in performance.
According to a report, the cantonment schools/colleges achieved 99.81 %
pass rate in HSC for the year 2024. The overall national pass rate for
HSC in the same year 2024 (across the general education boards) was
around 77.78 %. GPA-5 Achievement Rate is 58.1% for cantonment
schools/colleges and 11.8% for national school and college. According
to a report, the cantonment schools/colleges achieved a 100 % pass rate
in HSC for the year 2025.

In addition to urban cantonment schools and colleges Bangladesh Army has established schools and colleges in remote and underdeveloped regions, particularly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and other border areas. Examples include:
-Alikadam Cantonment Public School and College (Bandarban)
-Khagrachari Cantonment Public School and College
- Ruma Cantonment Public School and College
These institutions have made education accessible to indigenous and marginalized communities, reducing educational inequality and fostering national integration. By establishing such institutions, the Army has played a crucial role in promoting literacy and social harmony in remote areas. (To be continued)
