Probe report submission on Hadi murder deferred for 10th time

A Dhaka court has deferred the submission of further investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi for the 10th time, setting April 2 as the new deadline for investigators to file the report.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Wednesday after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.

Earlier, on January 6, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Faisal Ahmed submitted a charge sheet against 17 people in the case. Of them, 11 are currently in jail, while six remain absconding.

However, on January 15, the complainant filed a no-confidence petition against the charge sheet. 

The court accepted the petition and ordered the CID to conduct further investigation.

According to the case statement, Hadi was shot in the head on December 12 at Box Culvert Road in Purana Paltan area. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital.

On December 15, he was flown to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he later died. 

His body was brought back to Bangladesh on December 19 and buried beside the mausoleum of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University.

The case was initially filed as an attempted murder case with Paltan Police Station on December 14 by Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber. 

Following Hadi’s death, the case was later converted into a murder case.
