A committee has begun investigating allegations that a former prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) demanded bribes in exchange for bail in a crime against humanity case linked to the July Uprising.

ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam informed reporters about the development at his office on Wednesday. He is leading a five-member fact-finding committee formed on Tuesday to investigate bribery allegations against former prosecutor Saimum Reza Talukder. Aminul said, "A question has been raised before us, or an allegation has come, which we do not view lightly."

"Simultaneously, in case there are any other allegations within the tribunal, we have formed a committee under my leadership to uncover detailed information on all these issues," he added.

Four members of the committee began their work on Wednesday, while the fifth member was absent due to illness. The chief prosecutor said the primary objective of the fact-finding committee is to determine whether any member of the prosecution team or any other responsible individual was involved in unethical activities.
