HC accepts 7 more election result cases for hearing

The High Court Division accepted for hearing petitions challenging the results of seven more constituencies in the 13th National Parliament election and ordered relevant election officials to preserve ballot papers and other election materials of those seats.

The order was passed by a single bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain after the petitions were placed before the court on Thursday. 

The constituencies brought under judicial scrutiny are Dhaka 10, Dhaka 11, Pirojpur 2, Chuadanga 1, Barguna 2, Khulna 5 and Nilphamari 2.

According to the petitions, the aggrieved candidates have sought judicial review of the election results alleging various irregularities during polling and vote counting. 

The court accepted the petitions for hearing and directed preservation of necessary election equipment and ballot papers to ensure proper adjudication of the disputes.

In Dhaka 11 constituency, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate MA Qayyum filed a petition seeking review of the results on allegations of electoral irregularities. National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam was declared elected from that seat.

In Dhaka 10, Jamaat candidate Jasim Uddin Sarkar challenged the results, while Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Sheikh Rabiul Alam was declared the winner.

Jamaat e Islami candidate Shamim Sayedee filed a petition challenging the result of Pirojpur 2 constituency where BNP candidate Ahmed Sohel Mananjur was declared elected.

BNP candidate Md Sharifuzzaman sought judicial review of the result in Chuadanga 1 constituency where Jamaat candidate Masud Parvez Russell secured victory.

In Barguna 2 constituency, Jamaat candidate Dr Sultan Ahmed filed a petition challenging the result in which BNP candidate Nurul Islam Moni was declared elected.

Jamaat candidate and party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar filed a petition challenging the result of Khulna 5 constituency where BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asgar won the seat.

BNP candidate Shahrin Islam also challenged the election result of Nilphamari 2 constituency, where Al Farooq Abdul Latif was declared elected.
