Huge illegal fishing nets seized in Ctg

Department of Fisheries seized huge illegal fishing nets during an anti-poaching drive in the Halda River in Chattogram’s Hathazari upazila on Monday morning.

According to administration, a team of fisheries department officials conducted a drive at different points of the river from early morning until around 11:00 AM and seized approximately 9,000 metres of illegal fishing nets worth Tk 5 lakh.

During the drive, officials recovered 11 illegal ‘charghera’ nets from several locations, including areas near the Porakopoli sluice gate, IDF Hatchery, Chhengkhali sluice gate, Mozafarpur of Mekhal and Chhipatali.

Hathazari Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md Shawkat Ali confirmed the drive and said that such drives will continue to protect fish resources.
