Two persons of a fraud gang have been arrested in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj on charges of extorting money from the locals by promising to provide family and ration cards through a fake NGO called 'KSB'.

The arrested persons are Al Amin Hossain Alal of Minarpara village of the upazila and Abdul Hakim of Mahishakola village.

According to the complaint, Al Amin Hossain Alal and Abdul Hakim had been campaigning in the villages of Durganagar Union, saying that they would provide family and ration cards through 'KSB'. They lured people by promising that if they deposited 1,120 taka for each card, they would be given daily necessities worth 2,705 taka.

Falling into this trap, many locals handed over money, photocopies of voter ID cards and photographs to them.

When the matter came to the attention of Durganagar UP Panel Chairman Hafizur Rahman, he confronted the two alongwith the locals. But they were unable to provide any valid documents or proof of the existence of the organization.
After that, they were handed over to the Ullapara Model Police Station through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on Saturday night.

Ullapara Model Police Station Inspector, Rupu Kar confirmed the incident and stated that, a case has been registered against the arrested persons. They were sent to jail through the Sirajganj court on Sunday.

He also said that it is not yet known exactly how many people they have extorted money from. The police are seriously investigating whether anyone else is involved in this gang.
