CUCSU leader attacked at Ctg fuel station

A leader of the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) was attacked at a filling station in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong.

The attack took place at M Alam Filling Station adjacent to Hathazari Bus Stand around 8 PM on Monday.

Injured CUCSU leader is Masum Billah, secretary of CUCSU Library and Cafeteria. 

According to him, some youths from Hathazari area attacked him with sharp weapons and sticks due to past enmity.

The university administration and CUCSU leaders said that Masum Billah went to the filling station in Hathazari on Monday night to get fuel for his motorcycle. While he was getting fuel there, some youths suddenly came and started beating him. His classmates rescued him in a seriously injured condition and took him to the Chittagong University Medical Center. 

After receiving primary treatment there, he was admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Sayedur Ifaz, the officer in-charge of the emergency department of Chittagong University Medical Center, said that Masum Billah has deep wounds above his eyes and injury marks on various parts of his body.

Injured Masum Billah said that on March 4, Moniruzzaman Raj, a third-year student of the university's anthropology department, was seriously injured when a motorcycle belonging to a local of Hathazari hit him in front of the university's vice-chancellor's residence. A compromise meeting was held in the presence of the university's proctor, police and CUCSU representatives in this regard, where he was also present. In the meeting, a compensation of Tk 20,000 was collected from the man from Hathazari. He was attacked mainly because he helped the student in collecting the compensation.

CUCSU Law and Human Rights Secretary Fazle Rabbi said that the attack was led by a person named Rafiqul Islam. A case has been filed with Hathazari Police Station in this regard.

Chittagong University Proctor Hossain Shahid Sahrawardy said that the administration is aware of the incident. The injured CUCSU representative has been given primary treatment and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. 

The Vice-Chancellor is overseeing the entire matter. Based on the complaint, a case has been filed with the police station and the law enforcement agencies have been asked to quickly arrest the accused, he added.
