Rapid Action battalion (RAB) have rescued 13 people, including Rohingyas, from Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila while trafficking to Malaysia by sea.

It claims that they had a plan to traffic them illegally to Malaysia and collect ransom.

RAB-15 Assistant Director AM Faruk informed the matter in a press release on Wednesday.

He said, ''Based on a secret information, we came to know that a group of human trafficking gangs had gathered some women and men in a house in the Dakshin Lambari area of Teknaf Sadar Union. A team of RAB-15 and a team of CPC-1 Teknaf Camp conducted a drive at that house at around 1:30 AM on Monday (March 30) and rescued them.''

Of them, six are Bangladeshi men, four are Rohingya men and three are Rohingya women.

The RAB official also said that the safety of the rescued has been ensured and the process of filing a case against those involved is underway.
