2 killed in Pabna lightning strikes

Two individuals were killed and a teenage boy injured in separate lightning strikes in Pabna’s Santhia upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Abu Sayed, 47, a farmer from Sonatola village under Nagdemra union, and Akram Hossain, 44, of Punduria village in Karamja union. The injured, Parvez, 15, is a resident of the same area.

According to locals, the incidents occurred around 5:30 PM amid a sudden storm. Abu Sayed was harvesting onions in a field in Sonatola village when lightning struck him, killing him on the spot.

At the same time, Parvez was returning home from the field when he was injured after a nearby lightning strike. He was taken to Santhia Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Nagdemra Union Parishad Chairman Hafizur Rahman confirmed the incident.

In a separate incident about 10 minutes later, Akram Hossain was struck by lightning while cutting grass for cattle near the Punduria cremation ground adjacent to his house.

Later, locals rushed him to Bera Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Karamja ward 6 member Faruk Hossain confirmed the death.
