State Minister Saki resigns as party coordinator

State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki has stepped down from his post as chief coordinator of the Mass Solidarity Movement, citing the need to maintain a clear separation between government responsibilities and party leadership.

He announced his resignation at a press conference at the party's central office in Hatirpool, Dhaka, on Saturday.

"I have resigned from the top post of the party to ensure an institutional separation between the government and the political party," Saki said, adding that he will remain an ordinary party member.

At the same event, Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu, a member of the party's political council, took charge as acting chief coordinator.

Saki also addressed ongoing discussions on the "July National Charter". He said there is no major disagreement over the charter itself, but debate continues on its implementation.

"I do not see any debate over the July Charter. The debate is over how it will be implemented," he said. "Various political parties have submitted dissenting notes, but ultimately the majority opinion will prevail in the implementation process."

Saki was re-elected as chief coordinator at the party's fifth national council held in Savar on November 3 last year, where a 55-member executive committee was also formed.
