The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has cleared plans to purchase of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes and a substantial diesel shipment to address rising domestic demand amid global market volatility.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, gave the green light to the proposals during its 14th virtual meeting on Saturday, according to officials from the Cabinet Division.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division secured approval to import two LNG cargoes from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd, a move aimed at bolstering the country’s gas reserves and ensuring energy security.

Additionally, the committee endorsed a Tk 689.29 crore deal to import 100,000 metric tons of low-sulfur diesel (50 PPM) from Kazakh Gas Processing Plant LLP. The purchase will be made through the Direct Purchase Method (DPM) under international procurement protocols.
