The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the former speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad.

She was picked up from her relative's residence in Dhanmondi in the capital at about 4:30AM on Tuesday.

DB Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the move, noting she was taken into custody.

Shirin Sharmin served as Speaker from April 30, 2013, until her resignation on September 2, 2024.
