5 detained with drugs in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Apr 10: In separate anti-narcotics drives, five people were arrested with Yaba tablets and heroin in Dewanganj and Sadar upazilas of the district on Thursday night.

In a special operation by the District Detective Branch (DB-1), a drug dealer named Saidur Rahman, 35, son of Fatik Sikdar of Joaner Char Village in Dewanganj Upazila, was arrested with 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and a motorcycle used for drug transportation from Char Bazar area of the upazila.

In another operation in the Chhonkanda area of the Sherpur Bridge-Jamalpur highway in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, four more people - Rashed Mosharraf Babu, 31, son of Abdul Munna of Sheikher Vita area in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, Md Munna, 32, son of Mukul Mia of Bonpara area, Afridi Islam, 30, son of late Abdul Barek and Ariful Islam Roni, 42, son of late Azgar Ali were arrested along with 10 grams of heroin.

DB-1 Officer-in-Charge Abdul Qayyum confirmed the matter and said that they have been sent to jail on Friday afternoon after filing two separate cases under the Narcotics Control Act.
