FENI, July 20: A 95-year-old Imam was given a ceremonial farewell in a horse-drawn carriage after serving the same mosque for five decades in Chhagalnaiya Upazila of Feni.
The farewell was organised on Friday following Jumma prayers by the management committee of Rowshan Ara Begum Chowdhurani Jam-e-Mosque at Madhyam Shilua Village in Pathannagar Union.
Decorated with flowers, the horse carriage carrying Maulana Shamsul Haque Miajee was escorted to his home by a motorcycle procession as hundreds of worshippers and local residents bid him farewell.
As part of the ceremony, the mosque committee honoured the veteran cleric with Tk 300,000 in cash and announced a lifetime pension for him.
Many devotees travelled from distant areas to offer their last Friday prayers behind the imam. Several attendees became emotional while recalling his five decades of religious service and contribution to the community.
