GOPALGANJ, Apr 11: Train services between Dhaka-Gopalganj and Gopalganj-Dhaka will begin in the last week of the month April.
Additionally, from the first day of Boishakh (Bengali New Year), the Dhaka-bound train from Benapole will halt at Muksudpur station, according to Dr. K.M. Babar, MP for the Gopalganj-2 constituency.
He expressed hope that this will fulfil a long-standing demand of the people of this district. With this service, locals will be able to travel at low cost to Rajshahi, as well as Dhaka and Benapole, by train. This will save both money and time, while also boosting the economic development of the district.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a reception organized by the Union Parishad chairmen of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Saturday afternoon.
Criticising the previous government, MP Dr. Babar said, "People across the country think the previous government had wrapped Gopalganj in gold. But we know that the previous government did not carry out any significant development in Gopalganj that would create employment opportunities for the people of this district."
He further stated, the Awami League government ruled the country for the last 15 years. The people of this district had the Prime Minister (from here). Yet, Gopalganj municipality is crying out for pure drinking water. The municipal water is undrinkable.
Dr. Babar said, "The three of us MPs are working together on the development of Gopalganj. We had some personal electoral promises, and we are working day and night to fulfil these. Our leader, Tarique Rahman, implemented the electoral promises he made even before the ink on his hand had dried. In the future, Gopalganj will see development alongside the rest of the country."
MP Babar further said, "I am the MP for every person in Gopalganj. I want to build a liveable Gopalganj by taking everyone along-a place where there will be no godfathers or gangs, no political godfathers. Everyone is equal to me. And that is how we want to develop Gopalganj together, in harmony."
The reception meeting, presided over by Kaushik Ahmed, Executive Officer of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila, was addressed by Upazila Land Officer Babli Shabnam, Sadar Police Station OC Anichur Rahman, Gobra Union Chairman Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed, Haridaspur Union Chairman Md. Elias Hossain, Urfi Union's Monir Gazi, Korpada Union Chairman Habibur Rahman, Kathi Union Chairman Kamrul Islam, Durgapur Union Chairman Nazim Ahmed, Raghunathpur Union Chairman Manjurul Islam, Kazulia Union Chairman Ayub Ali Fakir, Shuktail Union Chairman Rana Molla, and Sahapur Union Chairman Binoy Sarkar, among others.
