Brahmanbari lawmaker Rumeen Farhana has described a government hospital in her constituency Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria-2 as being 'like a patient itself,' highlighting the dire condition of healthcare services in the area.

She outlined the challenges faced by residents in accessing adequate medical care.

According to her, approximately 350,000 people of nine unions of the upazila depend on a single 50-bed hospital, which is struggling to meet demand.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday morning, Rumeen emphasized that the hospital is plagued by multiple shortages, including a lack of sufficient doctors and staff, inadequate supplies of essential medicines, and a deficit of modern medical equipment.

She further noted that a plan to construct a new building at a cost of Tk 10 crore had been initiated, but the contractor fled after August 5, leaving the project incomplete. As a result, services are currently being operated from an old two-storey building.
