Family ‘confined’ amid alleged attempt to grab homestead in Kurigram

An underprivileged family in Kurigram’s Fulbari upazila has alleged that neighbours are attempting to forcibly capture their homestead land.

The incident reportedly took place on April 14 in Naodabas village under Boro Bhita union, where they have been living for nearly four decades, leaving them effectively confined inside their house.

Victim Lal Bahadur Robina and his family claimed that they have been residing peacefully on the land for about 40 years. However, in recent years, several local individuals identified as Jabbarul Haque, Jasim Uddin and Shahidul Islam, sons of late Abdus Sattar, have allegedly been trying to take over the property.

According to the family, multiple local arbitration efforts failed to resolve the dispute. On April 9, the accused allegedly fenced off the homestead with bamboo, effectively restricting the family’s movement.

They further allege that on April 14, the accused entered the premises again, vandalised parts of the house, and dug up the yard to plant vegetable seeds in an apparent attempt to establish ownership.

Fulbari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mahmud Hasan Naim said legal action would be taken if a formal complaint were filed.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dilara Akter said she has been informed of the matter and will coordinate with the local police to ensure a proper resolution.
