Police  arrested a 25-year-old youth for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl at Chatari union area under Anwara upazila of Chattogram district on Monday.

The arrested was identified as Arman Hossain, residing with his family in a rented house of the union.

Following the incident, the victim's mother filed a written complaint with Anwara Police Station.

According to the case statement and local sources, the victim was playing with other children outside her house in the morning. At around 9:00 AM, she returned home crying. When her mother inquired, the child revealed that her neighbor, Arman, had forcibly dragged her into a nearby vacant house and locked the door before physically assaulting and raping her.

The statement further mentioned that the victim’s cousin, who was playing with her at the time, knocked on the door and shouted, prompting the accused to open the door, allowing the victim to escape.

Upon hearing the child's ordeal, the family and neighbors rushed to the spot, caught Arman and he reportedly confessed to the crime during initial questioning.

On receiving information from the locals, a team from Anwara Police Station quickly arrived at the scene and took the accused into custody.

Anwara police station officer-in-charge (OC) Junayet Chowdhury confirmed the arrest and said legal proceedings are underway .
