
LAXMIPUR, Apr 21: A training programme on land services was held in Laxmipur to facilitate easier access to land-related services for citizens.
The training took place at the Sadar Upazila hallroom on Monday, jointly organised by the Sadar Upazila Land Office and the local chapter of the Conscious Citizens' Committee (Sonak), Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
More than 50 members of Youth Engagement and Support (YES) groups and Area Citizen Groups (ACG) took part in the programme.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Cathoai Pru Marma attended the event as the chief guest. Assistant Commissioner (Land) of the upazila, Abhi Das, conducted the training sessions as the resource person.
Among others present were former Sonak President Prof ZM Faruqui, Vice-President Prof Humayun Kabir, Sonak members Abul Mobarak Bhuiyan, Ahmed Hossain, Khodeza Khatun, Habibur Rahman Sabuj and Rajib Hossain Raju, as well as TIB Laxmipur Coordinator Abdur Rob Khan and ACG member Md Ashraful Islam.
The training covered a range of important topics related to land management and services. These included land laws, mutation (namjari), land development tax, land-related offences and penalties, khatian (record of rights), as well as issues concerning khas land and vested property.
Speakers emphasised the importance of raising public awareness about land services and ensuring transparency and accountability in land administration. They noted that such initiatives would help reduce harassment, simplify procedures, and improve service delivery for the general public.
Participants actively engaged in the sessions, sharing their experiences and gaining practical knowledge on accessing and managing land services more effectively. The organisers expressed hope that the training would contribute to building a more informed and responsible citizen base, ultimately supporting good governance in the land sector.
