13 police officials sent into forced retirement

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the compulsory retirement of 13 senior officers from the Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre, citing the "public interest."

The decision was formalized through separate notifications issued by the ministry’s Police Branch-1 and signed by Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury. 

The step was executed under Section 45 of the Government Employment Act, 2018, which grants the administration the authority to retire civil servants after they have completed a certain period of service.

The list of retired officials includes 11 officers holding the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG). 

Among those affected are Dr. AFM Masum Rabbani of the Police Staff College, River Police official Mohammad Abul Fayez, and AZM Nafiul Islam and Md. Monirul Islam, both of whom served in the Anti-Terrorism Unit. 

Other DIGs sent into retirement include Shamima Begum of the Police Directorate, Abu Kalam Siddique of the Industrial Police, Md. Aminul Islam of Police Telecom, and Salma Begum, who was stationed with the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in the hill districts. The list also includes Md. Munibur Rahman of the APBn Headquarters, Mahfuzur Rahman�"who was awaiting a transfer to the Police Academy�"and the fugitive Commandant of the Rangpur Police Training Centre, Moha. Ashrafuzzaman.

Additionally, two Additional DIGs were included in the retirement orders: Md. Sakhawat Hossain of the Tourist Police and Md. Iqbal Hossain, who was an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) attached to the Rangpur Range Office.

According to the Home Ministry, these retirement orders are effective immediately. 

The government clarified that despite the compulsory nature of the exit, all 13 officers remain eligible for their standard post-retirement financial benefits and legal privileges as per existing service rules.
