Government cuts Hajj package costs

The government has significantly reduced the cost of the 2027 Hajj packages, including food expenses, to ease the financial burden on pilgrims, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaykobad told Parliament on Tuesday.
He made the disclosure in a statement under Rule 300 of the Rules of Procedure during the Jatiya Sangsad session.
The minister said the government had taken several measures, following the prime minister’s directives, to make next year’s Hajj more affordable and convenient.
He said the price of Package-1 has been reduced from Tk 690,577 in 2026 to Tk 615,223 in 2027, a reduction of Tk 75,354. The package will also include Tk 39,136 for food expenses.
The price of Package-2 has been reduced from Tk 558,881 to Tk 505,648, down by Tk 53,233. Food expenses of Tk 29,000 will also be included in this package.
The government has also reduced airfare for Hajj pilgrims from Tk 154,830 in 2026 to Tk 130,000 in 2027, a reduction of Tk 24,830.
Calling the initiative an exceptional example, Kaykobad said the government had reduced both airfare and package costs despite the usual rise in service costs over time, prioritising the interests of pilgrims.
The minister said a total of 4,381 pilgrims travelled to Saudi Arabia under the government’s Hajj management programme in 2026. After final accounts were settled, Tk 48,723,014 remained unspent due to lower-than-estimated expenses in several sectors.
He said the surplus was returned directly to the bank accounts of the concerned pilgrims through BFT without any intermediary.
According to the minister, the successful return of the money demonstrated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
He said the 2026 Hajj was completed smoothly through the prime minister’s leadership, direction and close monitoring, adding that Saudi Arabia’s Hajj minister had also praised Bangladesh’s Hajj management.
“Serving the pilgrims, the guests of Allah, is one of the government’s key objectives,” Kaykobad said, adding that the government would continue its commitment to humanitarian service, honesty, responsibility and accountability in managing Hajj.
