State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir informed parliament on Tuesday (September 8) that former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed is currently residing in Dubai, UAE, and the government is actively working to bring him back to face trial.

Speaking on a point of order during the third session of the 13th National Parliament, the state minister clarified that official information confirms Benazir did not travel to the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia.

He labeled the former police chief a notorious 'killer' responsible for the deaths of thousands of political activists.

Lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches spoke in unison for over 30 minutes, demanding the immediate arrest and extradition of the former IGP.

Responding to the house, Humayun Kabir assured MPs that the Bangladesh Embassy in Dubai remains on alert and legal measures are underway to extradite him. He reiterated the government's commitment to holding accountable all individuals involved in past atrocities.
