Jamaat condemns Mirza Fakhrul's threat of political elimination

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has issued a strong condemnation of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's statement threatening to politically eliminate the party, calling it undemocratic and reminiscent of fascist rhetoric.

The party warned that such attempts will fail and accused BNP of conspiring to establish one-party authoritarian rule.

Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar issued a statement on Saturday (April 25), strongly protesting Fakhrul's remarks made earlier the same day at a press conference at BNP's central office in Dhaka'a Nayapaltan, .

In his statement, Parwar said he strongly condemns and protests the unconstitutional, undesirable and indecent statement made by the BNP secretary general threatening to completely eliminate Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami politically.

He described the threat of political elimination as not the language of democracy, asserting that by making such undesirable remarks, Fakhrul spoke in the language of fallen Awami fascists, which is neither appropriate nor acceptable.

The Jamaat leader said such statements are not expected from a responsible leader like him, noting that the remarks violate political etiquette. He warned that this statement indicates an attempt to push the country toward violence and provocative anarchy as in the past.

Parwar stated that at a time when 180 million people have driven one-party fascist rulers from the country through a bloody revolution and are continuing the movement to establish democracy, rule of law and a justice-based society, the BNP secretary general is speaking in the tune of one-party Awami fascism by threatening to completely eliminate the opposition party Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the national parliament.

He alleged that Fakhrul's statement proves BNP is conspiring to completely eliminate the opposition party politically and establish one-party authoritarian and fascist rule in the country again.

The Jamaat leader said conscious citizens believe that when a party or individual fails to confront political opponents with ideals, logic and morality, only then do they reveal their political bankruptcy by making such provocative statements of terrorism and violence.

In clear terms responding to the BNP secretary general's statement, Parwar declared that the Awami fascist forces of the past could not eliminate Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami despite running unjust undemocratic and terrorist campaigns for 17 and a half years.

He expressed hope that the BNP secretary general will refrain from such short-sighted statements and maintain a democratic environment.

The Jamaat leader reminded that in the past, Awami fascists themselves were rejected while trying to politically eliminate Jamaat-e-Islami.

He warned that similarly, if anyone or any party conspires to eliminate Jamaat-e-Islami, the people of this country will reject them in the same way.

Parwar asserted that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami cannot be subdued by threatening or intimidating with elimination.

He called upon BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to speak in constitutional and democratic language instead of using such undemocratic and provocative language that pushes the democratic system toward destruction.
