Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and LGRD Minister, said that people are aware of the past history of certain groups and have consciously rejected them. He added that political efforts must continue to ensure they are completely defeated in the future.
Fakhrul strongly criticised the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for claiming that BNP came to power through election engineering.
The LGRD Minister said he strongly condemns and protests the statement, adding that such remarks reflect a lack of fair and healthy thinking.
He also said that people around the world-including election observers, the international community, institutions in Bangladesh, newspapers, and the media-have recognised the last election as one of the fairest and most impartial in recent times.
Fakhrul said BNP won 213 seats in what he described as a fair election and formed the government with public support. He again rejected the Jamaat Ameer's claim and expressed strong dissatisfaction over it.
The BNP leader alleged that certain groups are now trying to create confusion and division among people by spreading misinformation and concealing BNP's activities.
He warned that such actions could undermine the opportunity created after August 5 to strengthen democracy in Bangladesh, and expressed concern that they could push the country toward authoritarianism.
Fakhrul said the public remains aware of the past actions of these groups, which is why they have been rejected, and emphasised the need to continue political efforts to defeat them.
He further alleged that these groups have long attempted to destabilise political conditions in the country. Before the election, they spread propaganda, misinformation, and false narratives, and misused social media to influence public opinion against BNP.
However, he said those efforts failed. He added that recent activities, including cartoons and misleading content, suggest that forces seeking to destabilise Bangladesh remain active.
He concluded by strongly condemning such activities and reiterating his protest.
