The government has sent 17 senior police officials, including 16 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), into forced retirement as part of an ongoing overhaul within the Bangladesh Police.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a formal notification on Sunday afternoon, confirming that the order takes effect immediately.
According to the notification, the officials from the BCS (Police) cadre were retired under Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018, citing public interest.
The retired officers will be entitled to all standard retirement benefits as per government regulations. This move follows a similar action on April 22, when the government sent 11 DIGs and two Additional DIGs into mandatory retirement.
The prominent officials retired in this latest round include Anti-Terrorism Unit DIG Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, Highway Police DIG Imtiaz Ahmed, and CID DIG Md. Habibur Rahman.
The list also features high-ranking officers from various specialized units, such as Md. Harun-ur-Rashid, a Director at the National Security Intelligence (NSI), and Md. Majid Ali, the Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police.
Other retired DIGs include Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, S.M. Akhtaruzzaman, Md. Haider Ali Khan, Md. Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, Md. Ruhul Amin, Md. Rafiqul Hasan Gani, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Kazi Zia Uddin, Md. Golam Rouf Khan, Sheikh Mohammad Rezaul Haider, and Rakhfar Sultana Khanam.
Additionally, Railway Police Superintendent (Supernumerary Additional DIG) Farhat Ahmed was included in the order.
The Ministry emphasized that these retirements are part of a administrative process to streamline the force and ensure the effective delivery of public services.
The government has been increasingly active in reconfiguring the leadership tiers of the national police force over the past several weeks.
