Gopalganj MP urges forming drug-free society

GOPALGANJ, May 3: Gopalganj-3 Constituency MP SM Jilani has called for building a drug-free society by following the humanitarian ideals of poet Sukanta Bhattacharya.

He made this call as the chief guest at the preparatory meeting of the Sukanta Mela (fair) organised by the Kotalipara Upazila Administration at the Upazila Parishad Hall Room on Sunday.

SM Jilani said that Sukanta's poetry clearly reflects the inequality between the rich and the poor, the cries of hungry people and the dream of building a just and humane society.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sagufta Haque chaired the meeting. It was attended by Upazila BNP President SM Mohiuddin, General Secretary (GS) Abul Bashar Hawlader, Municipal BNP President Yusuf Ali Daria, GS Oliur Rahman Hawlader, valiant freedom fighter Abul Kalam Daria, local Shilpakala Academy GS Dilip Kumar Bhabuk and Journalist Mizanur Rahman Bulu.

It was informed in the meeting that a three-day discussion meeting, cultural programmes and a rural fair will be organised keeping in mind the ideals of poet Sukanta Bhattacharya.
