Dhaka University (DU) proctor Prof Saifuddin Ahmed resigned from his post on Sunday, citing personal reasons.
He submitted his resignation letter to Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam around 2:30 PM.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the letter, Prof Saifuddin said he wanted to take a rest for the time being.
“I want to rest for now. That is why I have made this decision,” he said.
Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Obaidul Islam confirmed receipt of the resignation and said the university administration would decide on the appointment of a new proctor soon.
Prof Saifuddin Ahmed, a faculty member of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, was appointed DU proctor on August 28, 2024, following the fall of the Awami League government and the reconstitution of the university administration under the interim government.
His resignation comes weeks after the appointment of a new vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellors following the BNP-led government’s return to power after the February general election.
