147 diploma institutions served notices over enrollment crisis

Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) has served show-cause notices on 147 diploma-level educational institutions across the country for failing to enroll students over a prolonged period, warning of possible suspension of admissions and cancellation of teaching approvals.

The information was disclosed in a notice signed by Md Al Masud Karim, Inspector (Additional Charge) and Secretary of the Board, on Thursday.

According to the notice, institutions offering Diploma in Engineering, Diploma in Textile and Diploma in Agriculture programmes that have recorded no student enrollment for an extended period have been directed to submit explanations by June 18.

The institutions have been asked to explain why their admission activities should not be suspended from the 2026-27 academic session and why their academic authorisation should not be cancelled or withdrawn.

The Board said that of the 147 institutions served with notices, 120 run Diploma in Engineering programmes, 12 offer Diploma in Textile programmes and 15 provide Diploma in Agriculture courses.

BTEB warned that failure to submit satisfactory explanations within the stipulated deadline would result in administrative action in accordance with existing regulations and policies.
