NAOGAON, May 10: Mango collection in Naogaon will begin from 22 May. Different varieties of mangoes will appear in the market in phases according to their type.

To prevent the marketing of unripe mangoes, the district administration has once again announced the mango collection schedule. However, due to weather, temperature, rainfall, or other special reasons, mangoes may be collected earlier with permission from the concerned local upazila administration.

The mango collection schedule was announced at a views-exchange meeting held around 4 pm on Sunday in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC). The meeting was chaired by DC Mohammad Saiful Islam.

The collection schedule for this year's mangoes was determined during the discussions to ensure safe, toxin-free and ripe mangoes.

According to the schedule, from May 22 onwards, all types of small (guti) varieties of mangoes can be collected. Among the improved varieties, Gopalbhog can be collected from May 30, Khirsapat or Himsagar from  June 2, Nak Fazli from  June 5, Langra and Haribhanga from  June 10, Fazli from  June 25, Amrapali from  June 15, Banana Mango from  June 25, and from  July 5, Ashwina, Bari Aam-4, Gourmoti and Katina mangoes can be collected.

The meeting was attended by Homayra Mondol, Deputy Director of the Department of District Agriculture Extension, along with upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs), mango growers and traders.

The meeting informed that there are mango orchards on 300,310 hectares of land in Naogaon District this year. The target for total production has been set at 387,235 metric tons. This year, there is a potential for mango sales worth approximately Tk 4,000 crore from Naogaon District alone.
