Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday asserted that there is no room for corruption within the police force, reaffirming the government’s "zero tolerance" policy and a commitment to maintaining a strict chain of command.

The Minister made the remarks at the "Prime Minister’s Directives to Senior Police Officers" event, held at the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon to mark Police Week 2026.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the ceremony as the chief guest, alongside high-ranking officials including the Principal Secretary, Home Secretary, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Addressing the evolving nature of crime in the digital age, the Home Minister announced the formation of a specialized "Cyber Police Unit" to combat cybercrime and the spread of misinformation on social media.

He also revealed plans to establish two new police training academies in Chattogram’s Jungle Salimpur--one dedicated to elite forces and the other for general personnel.
Furthermore, new legislation is being drafted to ensure transparency and accountability in the operations of elite units.

Minister Salahuddin issued a directive to increase the use of body-worn cameras to ensure operational transparency and emphasized that police must follow United Nations standards by using minimal force.

"Police must be strategic in suppressing crime, but human rights violations will not be tolerated under any circumstances," he stated.

In a move to modernize the force, the Minister highlighted plans to upgrade central and divisional police hospitals and construct a comprehensive police sports complex.

He also instructed officials to expedite essential services, such as police clearance certificates and online GDs, to improve public service quality.

Concluding his speech, the Home Minister noted that a stable law and order situation is a prerequisite for implementing the government’s 31-point election manifesto.

He urged officers to adopt modern "preventive policing" doctrines to stop crimes before they occur, transforming every police station into a trusted service hub under the motto "Police is the Public, Public is the Police."
