ASI found hanging in Mirsarai hotel, wife injured

A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was found hanging inside a hotel room in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram on Monday, while his wife was found injured and covered in blood nearby.

The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam, 32, an ASI posted at the Rangamati Police Lines. His 24-year-old wife, Tahmina Akter, was taken to hospital for treatment. Their 10-month-old child was found unharmed.

Police recovered Aminul’s body from room 104 of Hotel Relax Zone at Bartakia Bazar around 11am.

According to hotel authorities, Aminul and his wife checked into the hotel around 2pm on Sunday. When the manager repeatedly knocked on their door around 9:30am on Monday and received no response, he alerted others. Tahmina later opened the door, and Aminul was found hanging from a ceiling fan beside the bed.

Mirsarai Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Nadim Haider Chowdhury said police recovered the body after receiving the information and sent Tahmina to hospital in an injured condition.

The body was sent to Chattogram for autopsy after an inquest, he said.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
