To support the government's immunization program and help make its Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) more dynamic and effective, the Chinese organization Sinovac Foundation has donated 380,000 doses of WHO pre-qualified polio vaccine (Sabin strain) to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The vaccine doses were formally handed over to Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain on Wednesday in the conference room of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at the Secretariat.

The vaccine is named Poliomyelitis Vaccine (Vero Cell, Inactivated Sabin Strains) (sIPV). The total quantity donated is 380,000 doses, contained in 76,000 vials.

Senior officials from the Chinese Embassy and high-level representatives of Sinovac Biotech Ltd. were also present at the ceremony.

As part of the global polio eradication efforts, Sinovac has already been successfully supplying this same vaccine to various international organisations including the United Nations (UN).
