Four more people died of dengue and 1,314 were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the 24 hours to Monday morning, taking the disease’s death toll this year to 121.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest fatalities brought the total number of dengue cases reported this year to 43,904.
Of the newly hospitalised patients, 507 were from Dhaka division and the city corporations, 235 from Khulna, 198 from Chattogram, 153 from Barishal, 99 from Rajshahi, 81 from Mymensingh, 36 from Rangpur and five from Sylhet.
The number of dengue deaths rose sharply in August, with 43 fatalities recorded during the month, according to DGHS data. A further 24 deaths were reported in the first six days of September.
So far this year, 40,709 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
