Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Thursday said the SSC 2027 and equivalent examinations will begin on January 7 and HSC on June 6.
The minister made this announcement at a press briefing held in his ministry conference room at the Secretariat.
"We have decided that SSC examinations will start on January 7, 2027 and end on February 6, 2027," the minister said, adding that both SSC and HSC examinations are "very important" given their scale and impact on students' futures.
He noted that around two million students sit for SSC and equivalent examinations and a similar number for HSC and honours levels. "These four million students are our responsibility. Their education and future are very important," he added.
Explaining the rationale for reforming the examination cycle, the minister said prolonged session jams were undermining academic timelines. "Normally, SSC and HSC together take 18 years of education. But in reality it is taking up to 20 years. That means the nation is losing time in terms of its demographic dividend," he said.
He added that the ministry was working to align the academic calendar with a December completion cycle. "We want to reduce session jams, complete the syllabus properly and hold examinations after learning is properly completed," he added.
According to the proposed framework, the SSC syllabus for classes nine and ten would conclude in December, followed by examinations in January. Results will be published within two months, enabling students to proceed to the next academic stage without delay.
"We were targeting December as the ideal completion month for both SSC and HSC cycles," he said, adding the ministry finalised the HSC examination schedule from July 2, with exams expected to conclude on July 13.
For the 2027 SSC cycle, the new schedule has been finalised after consultations with stakeholders.
On university admissions abroad, the minister said the revised schedule was designed to ensure students could meet international academic timelines. "We are conducting examinations in June so that students can align with foreign semester requirements," he added.
