Senior journalist Anis Alamgir on Thursday made a series of strong allegations against former Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, claiming he had "sold Bangladesh to the United States" and describing him as a "world cheater".
He made the remarks in front of journalists at the court premises after securing permanent bail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
"We have now entered into a different chapter from the world butler. Now we will try to see how we can take this country forward. We will also cooperate with this government and criticise it too," he said.
Alamgir said the role of journalists is to highlight both the positives and negatives of the government in power.
"The job of journalists is to praise the good deeds of the government in power and condemn the bad deeds. That is what I have been doing. When I was doing it during Yunus's tenure, he arrested me," he said.
He further alleged that "misrule" during Yunus's tenure had damaged the country's institutions.
