Three of a family among 7 killed in road accidents in Khulna, Bogura

Seven people, including three members of the same family, were killed in separate road accidents in Khulna and Bogura districts on Friday night and Saturday morning.

In Khulna, a woman, her two-year-old daughter and her sister-in-law were killed while another person was seriously injured after a motorcycle collided head-on with a truck in Dighalia upazila on Friday night.

The accident occurred around 9:45pm on the Khulna-Kalia road in Domra village.
Police and local residents said motorcycle rider Sihab Sheikh, 24, from Uthali village under Kalia upazila of Narail, was travelling from Khulna to Kalia with his wife Farzana Khatun, 22, sister-in-law Rubia Khatun, 16, and two-year-old daughter Maymuna when the motorcycle collided with an oncoming truck.

Farzana, Rubia and Maymuna died on the spot, while critically injured Sihab was taken to Kalia Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The truck driver and helper fled the scene immediately after the accident, locals said. Angry residents later set the truck on fire before police arrived and brought the situation under control.

Dighalia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Shubhra Prakash Das confirmed the incident, saying that police were working to identify the absconding driver and helper and take legal action against them.

Meanwhile, four people were killed in another road accident involving a truck and a pickup van in Kahaloo upazila of Bogura on Saturday morning.

The accident took place around 10:30am on the Bogura-Naogaon highway in Kajipara area.
Police said the pickup van was returning to Mymensingh after delivering fish to Naogaon when it collided head-on with a goods-laden truck while overtaking another vehicle.

The front portion of the pickup was completely mangled in the collision, leaving the driver, helper and two fish traders’ dead on the spot.

One of the deceased was identified as Lutfor Rahman, 50, son of Toyeb Ali of Raghobpur village in Mymensingh Sadar. He was a fish trader. The identities of the other three victims could not be confirmed immediately.

Kahaloo Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam said the truck driver and helper fled after the accident. Police and fire service personnel recovered the bodies and removed the damaged vehicles, restoring traffic movement on the highway.

Sub-Inspector Brajen Chandra of Kahaloo Police Station said the body of Lutfor Rahman was sent to his family and the bodies of the other victims were sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for autopsies. Police have taken the truck and pickup into custody and are investigating the accidents.
