Lightning strikes kill three in 2 districts

Three people were killed in separate lightning strikes in Jamalpur and Brahmanbaria districts in two days.

JAMALPUR: A youth was killed in a lightning strike in Kamarpara Village of Jorkhali Union in Madarganj Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.

Deceased Majnu Mia, 24, was the son of Bachchu Mandal of the village and an executive committee member of the upazila unit of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, an affiliate of NCP.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madarganj Model Police Station (PS) Snehashish Roy said that permission has been granted to bury the body.

On the other hand, a farmer named Faruk Ahmed, 37, son of Afsar Ali of Paschim Aranghati Village of Mesta Union in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila died in a separate lightning strike on the same afternoon while working in the paddy field. 

Akhtaruzzaman, a member of Ward No. 2 of Mesta Union, confirmed the matter.

BRAHMANBARIA: A schoolboy named Md Fahad, 15, died in a lightning strike in Binauti Village of Ward No. 4 of Binauti Union in Kasba Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as the son of Md Faruk of the area and a class 10 student of a local school.

According to police and local sources, Fahad was playing football with his classmates in the field next to his house on Thursday afternoon. At that time, lightning suddenly struck him and he was seriously injured. Later, family members took him to Kasba Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Kasba PS OC confirmed the incident.
