
BAGERHAT, May 18: State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit visited the Bangladesh-India Friendship Super Thermal Power Plant, Rampal on Sunday afternoon.
The visit was sudden, according to officials, and forms part of ongoing oversight of the country's major power generation projects.
During the visit, the State Minister was received by Managing Director Ramanath Poojary of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Private) Limited (BIFPCL). The plant authorities formally welcomed him at the site.
Later, a detailed presentation on the overall project activities was held at the administrative building conference room of BIFPCL. Senior officials from various departments of the project attended the session.
A subsequent exchange of views meeting was also held with top officials of the plant, where operational progress, production capacity, safety measures, and future plans were discussed, according to sources present.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Bagerhat District Council Administrator Barrister Sheikh Md. Zakir Hossain, Bangladesh Power Development Board (Generation) Member Md. Zahirul Islam, APSCL Director Mohammad Solaiman, NWPGCL officials, Deputy Secretary of the Power Division, Abhishek Kumar of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Project Director Muh. Alauddin, Deputy Project Director Ankur Agarwal, AGM (TS) Md. Imtiaz Banda, and DGM (Operation) Rahat Tanvir.
Local administration officials including Rampal Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamanna Ferdousi and Officer-in-Charge Md. Rajib Al Rashid were also present at the time.
Political leaders, including Bagerhat District BNP Convener Engineer ATM Akram Hossain Talim and Member Secretary Mozzafar Rahman Alam, also attended the programme.
Officials said the visit focused on reviewing the operational status of the coal-fired power plant and ensuring smooth coordination among all stakeholders involved in the project.
