JHALAKATHI, May 19: Al-Amin Talukdar, reporter of Ekhon Television, has been elected President of the Jhalakathi Television Journalists Association unopposed, while Masudul Alam of Banglavision and Alok Saha, district correspondent of Maasranga Television, have been elected Vice-President and General Secretary respectively.
As there were no rival candidates in the biennial election for the 2026-27 term, all candidates for the association's posts were elected uncontested.
Election Commissioner and District Information Officer Lelin Bala formally announced the results at a Chinese restaurant in the town on Tuesday afternoon.
Ratan Acharya of Channel 24 was elected Joint General Secretary, Jarul Islam Jalil of RTV Treasurer, Barkat Hossain Mridha of SA TV Office Secretary, Moinul Haque Lipu of ATN News Publicity and Publication Secretary, and Saiful Islam of Nagorik TV Sports Secretary.
Meanwhile, Dulal Saha of Jamuna TV, Tarun Sarkar of Ekattor TV, and Shahidul Alam of GTV were elected executive members.
According to the election schedule for the 11-member executive committee, nomination papers were distributed on May 17, while submission and scrutiny of nominations took place on May 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature was May 19.
Although voting had been scheduled for May 20, no election was required as only one candidate submitted nomination papers for each post.
The candidates formally collected their nomination papers from Election Commissioner and District Information Officer Lelin Bala on May 17. After scrutiny, the final list of candidates was published.
