MANIKGANJ, May 21: State Minister for Shipping Md Rajib Ahsan has said that the government has taken maximum preparations to ensure smooth and comfortable Eid journeys, aiming to reduce passenger suffering at ferry and launch terminals across the country.
The minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inspecting the Paturia ferry and launch terminal in Manikganj on Wednesday afternoon.
He said monitoring at all ferry ghats has been intensified ahead of Eid to ensure safe and hassle-free travel for homebound people. Authorities are keeping close watch to identify any irregularities or mismanagement, and necessary instructions have already been issued to concerned officials.
The minister added that discipline must be maintained at ghat areas, with vehicles required to stay in designated spaces at safe distances. Passengers will be allowed to board ferries first, followed by vehicles in phases to reduce congestion and ensure order at terminals.
He further said that all relevant agencies, including the administration and law enforcement authorities, are working in coordination to ensure smooth Eid travel. Measures have been taken to handle increased passenger pressure, including additional ferry services, enhanced security, and improved passenger management facilities.
Md Rajib Ahsan warned that strict action will be taken against any irregularities or mismanagement found at any ghat. He said officials responsible for negligence would be held accountable following investigations and necessary administrative steps would be taken.
He also urged passengers to follow government instructions during their journeys, saying that compliance with rules would significantly reduce accidents and suffering.
Passenger pressure at major river terminals, including Paturia, has already started increasing ahead of Eid. However, authorities say that due to early preparations, this year's Eid travel is expected to be relatively smoother and more comfortable.
